Community urged to donate pre-loved winter coats as annual Winter Coat Project returns

Halton and St Helens VCA and Care UK Charity are calling on local residents, businesses, and community organisations to support this year’s Winter Coat Project, the community recycling scheme helps to make sure people across Halton can stay warm this winter and reduce waste. 

An estimated 5,000 coats have been redistributed across the borough over the last 4 years, many of which could have ended up in landfill.  Help us make year 5 even more successful.  

Army Reserve Recruitment Event Comes to Ways to Work St Helens

Ways to Work St Helens will welcome representatives from the 103rd Regiment Royal Artillery Army Reserve for a recruitment and information session on Thursday 10 September from 10am to 2pm at its centre on Bridge Street.

The drop-in event will give local residents the opportunity to meet serving reservists and learn more about the range of opportunities available within the Regiment, including roles in artillery, logistics, medical support, HR and catering.

Consultation On The Future of National Lottery Funding

 

Voluntary and community organisations across the UK are being encouraged to take part in a national consultation on the future of National Lottery funding for good causes. The review aims to gather views from local authorities, voluntary sector organisations, community groups and members of the public to help shape how funding is distributed in the years ahead.

The consultation is seeking feedback on a number of key issues, including:

New Professional Resource Hub Launched to Support Children and Young People at Risk of Self-Harm

 

Professionals working with children and young people across Cheshire and Merseyside now have access to a new resource designed to improve confidence and knowledge when supporting those at risk of self-harm.

The Cheshire & Merseyside CYP Self-Harm Professional Resource Hub has been launched to provide practical, evidence-based guidance for staff and volunteers who may not have specialist mental health training but are often in a position to identify and support children and young people experiencing emotional distress.

Halton Community Leaders Invited to Discuss Faith, Hope and Stronger Neighbourhoods

 

Community organisations, churches and faith groups across Halton are being invited to take part in a conversation about how local communities can work together to create stronger and more connected neighbourhoods.

The event forms part of the Faith in the City 40th Anniversary Programme taking place across the Liverpool City Region and will bring together community partners from Halton and the wider region.

Reconnecting Runcorn Public Open Day

Halton Council are holding a Public Info Session to provide updates on the latest news & progress on the Reconnecting Runcorn project. There will also be a small Q&A session.

These will be open to members of the public, businesses, charities, etc.

Our Winter Coats project is back and this year we are excited to be partnering with the amazing Care UK Charity!  It all kicks off with Donation Stations opening from the 1st September 2026.  A big shout out to Roy Jacks, removals company, for their very generous gift of 100 cardboard boxes to help us along the way.
