    Each year, World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) takes place on 10th September, and World Mental Health Day (WMHD) takes place on 10th October.

    The World Health Organisation sets the theme for WSPD, which this year is ‘Creating Hope through Action’, and the World Federation for Mental Health set the theme for WMHD, and this year it is ‘Make Mental Health and Wellbeing for all a Global Priority’.

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing Plan: Discussion Paper and Call for Evidence

    The Government has committed to develop a new cross-government, 10-year plan for mental health and wellbeing.

     As part of the consultation for this a ‘call for evidence’ discussion paper has been launched seeking public response to a range of questions.

  • Mental Health Support For Veterans

    Improved NHS veterans’ mental health services are available across England. If you are experiencing mental health difficulties, these services can provide a range of treatment and support regardless of when you left the armed forces. This includes recognising the early signs of mental health problems and providing access to early treatment and support, as well as therapeutic treatment for complex mental health difficulties and psychological trauma. Patients are also provided with help, where appropriate, with employment, reduction in alcohol consumption, housing and social support.

    Positive Life Workshops CIC (who were one of the recipients of the Better Mental Health funding that St Helens Council received last year) are helping to improve the community's mental health. They are using a new fully immersive and innovative program that brings Virtual Reality gaming and meditations to help build resilience.   • ZSA Suicide Awareness Training For University Students

    Zero Suicide Alliance are delighted to have launched the university student edition of their Suicide Awareness Training.
     
    Sadly 2,382 young people took their own lives (aged between 15 and 24) in England, Scotland and Wales between 2018 and 2020, according to a recent Samaritans report. The latest available data on student suicide figures (ONS, 2018) stated that eight students a month died by suicide in the academic year 2016 to 2017.
