The following training is available 

Introduction to Domestic Abuse

Overview: This 2-hour online training session provides you with an introductory overview of domestic abuse. This training is suitable for anyone who has an interest in learning more about what domestic abuse looks like, and how to support victims.            

What it covers:

  • The definition of domestic abuse as outlined by the new Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
  • The different types of abuse that victim/survivors can experience.
  • The warning signs and indicators that may suggest someone is a victim of domestic abuse.
  • The barriers to ending abusive relationships
  • Ways to support victim/survivors of domestic abuse including how to ask and how to respond when someone is a victim/survivor of domestic abuse.
  • Local and national specialist domestic abuse support services and contact details

Attendees: Anyone who works with, volunteers or supports the general public. It is particularly useful for people who work in frontline services for example, statutory services like social care, school staff or housing support. The training is also beneficial for anyone working in the third and voluntary sectors.

Children & Domestic Abuse

Overview: This 1.5 hour online training session is suitable for anyone who has an interest in learning more about the impact of domestic abuse on children.  It provides an introductory overview of the impact of living in household experiencing domestic abuse and  how this trauma can impact on behaviour and development of children.

What it covers:  

  • Children in the Domestic Abuse Bill 2021;
  • The 'lived experience'  and  'voice of the child';  
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs);
  • The impact of childhood trauma on development and behaviour;  
  • Making a difference by reducing trauma and building resilience;
  •  Getting support for children living with domestic abuse.

Attendees: Anyone who works with, volunteers or supports families with children or children directly.  It is particularly useful for people who work in frontline services for example, statutory services like childcare settings, school staff, social care, or housing support. The training is also beneficial for anyone working in the third and voluntary sectors.

Keeping Trauma in Mind: Domestic Abuse

Overview: This 1 day in person  training is for professionals and practitioners.  It is a unique and innovative approach to training delivery, utilising victim/survivor co-facilitation and voices to raise awareness.  It uses the ""lived experience"" of survivors to help practitioners understand the reality of living with domestic abuse trauma. Learning outcomes: making links between domestic abuse, trauma and mental health by learning about:

  • brain development
  • the stress response;
  • trauma and neurology,
  • adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
  • the impact of trauma on health and well-being
  • recovery from trauma
  • understanding how to support service users who have experienced domestic abuse trauma in their lives.

What is the training like?

  • 1 day in person training  
  • An interactive mixture of theory, video clips, activities, discussion
  • Contribution from a ‘lived Experience’ co-facilitator
