Across the Borough, many local organisations are working side by side as part of the St Helens Borough Community Food Providers Alliance to create innovative food projects that support individuals and families. By working together - community groups, charities, and the public sector - we’re making sure that everyone has access to delicious, nutritious, and affordable food. From sharing surplus food to promoting smart shopping and cooking, our initiatives help people stretch their budgets while cutting down on waste.

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum in Widnes is excited to announce the launch of a new initiative designed to support residents in their local community.
Community Library Grant Scheme - St Helens Borough Council
The Community Library Grant Scheme aims to support groups to establish a library offer within their community.
This will be done by offering up to a maximum of £5,000 for one-off grant funding to community organisations or community interest companies who are working within St Helens Borough.
What is a Community Library?

NWAS Ambulance Awareness Day - Thursday 03 April 2025
North West Ambulance Service is holding a FREE community engagement event with interactive talks on their services, information on careers, lifesaving skills and much more.
The event is taking place on Thursday 03 April 2025, 11:00 – 15:00 at Devonshire House, 293-297 Edge Lane, Fairfield, Liverpool, L7 9LD.
Merseyflow Timebank
Are you a local community group looking for some assistance with a project?
Community organisations in Halton are being encouraged to sign up for the charitable Time Bank scheme led by Merseylink and Merseyflow for free-of-charge expert help during 2025.
The Time Bank initiative aims to assist key organisations, including schools, colleges, charities, and community groups, by allowing Halton communities to benefit from the skills and expertise of the Merseylink and Merseyflow teams.
Asda Community Outdoor Spaces Fund
The Outdoor Community Spaces Fund is Asda’s new funding opportunity, with grants ranging from £500 to £3,000, to be used to improve or transform outdoor community spaces where people can meet and be together and build pride in their local areas.
Application deadline is the 11th of February so act quickly to secure funding.
‘What Matters to me?’ Community Engagement
Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals are carrying out a project with patients called ‘What Matters to me?’ where they are going out to engage with patients from inclusion health groups (groups who don’t often engage with health care providers) to ask them what matters to them when accessing services, so they can understand what barriers people in these groups may be faced with when accessing services, and what they can do to make a difference.
Meet Alicia Abbott, Our New Widnes Community Connector
Alicia Abbott has joined the Halton Connect team as the new Widnes Community Connector.
The Halton Connected team is made up of two Community Connectors, Alicia for Widnes and Joanne for Runcorn; and Development Officer, Laura, for Halton.The Community Connectors aim to link in with local organisations, to understand what you do, and the difference you make to reducing health inequity in the community.

St Helens Community Survey from Heseltine Institute
University of Liverpool researchers have launched a survey to hear how St Helens residents feel about where they live. Working with St Helens Council, the researchers are keen to understand which local services, facilities and amenities residents use, how they access them, and what might be improved.
