Powered By Hip Hop Launches Summer Initiatives to Support Wellbeing and Community Engagement Across St Helens

Powered By Hip Hop, formerly known as UC Crew, is making waves this summer with a series of dynamic, inclusive programmes aimed at improving wellbeing and reducing loneliness through the transformative power of Hip Hop arts.

With over 21 years of experience, the organisation continues to champion creative expression through Break Dance, DJing, Graffiti Art, and newer disciplines like Circus and Parkour. Thanks to recent funding, Powered By Hip Hop is expanding its reach with targeted activities for refugees, asylum seekers, and home-schooled children. These free sessions, which include Graffiti Art, Pebble Art, Parkour, and Break Dance, are being held at various locations across the borough, including Chain Lane Community Centre.

In addition, the group is running Holiday Activity Clubs (HAF) throughout August, offering children confidence-building experiences while providing respite for families. While most sessions are fully booked, organisers encourage families to reach out in case of last-minute availability due to cancellations.

Another highlight is Parkour in the Park, currently taking place in Parr. These sessions combine free running with community clean-up efforts like litter picking and reverse graffiti spray painting, promoting both physical activity and environmental stewardship. The programme is currently active at Nanny Goat Park and will soon move to Gaskell Park, weather permitting.

Powered By Hip Hop is also spearheading a Reverse Vandalism Project across St Helens. This initiative aims to restore public spaces by removing vandalism and replacing it with positive graffiti art. As part of the project, a monthly Graffiti Art Club will be held in St Helens Town Centre, open to all. Additionally, a focused programme will engage young people at risk of offending, offering them a constructive outlet through art.
