Welcome to The 20:20 Print Exchange 2023/2024, hosted by Hazlehurst Studios!
Originally conceived in 2009, the exchange emerged from a playful mix-up between two print workshops with similar names: Hot Bed Press and Red Hot Press, despite their distance of over 230 miles. What started as a lighthearted connection swiftly evolved into a grander vision to unite workshops across the UK and beyond, giving rise to the 20:20 print exchange.
The concept is elegantly simple:
Each artist creates an edition of 25 prints, submitting them to Hot Bed Press in groups of 10 (or multiples thereof) as part of a print workshop, college department, or collective group. Following the momentous print sort at Hot Bed Press, each artist and workshop receives back a randomized selection of 20 prints.
The Exhibition Tour:
Every year, the number one print from each edition embarks on a national and international tour, visiting print workshops or galleries connected to participating exchanges. This year, Hazlehurst Studios are delighted to announce that they received the exhibition from Northern Print, and it will then move on to West Yorkshire Print Workshop before moving to Taigh-Chearsaghagh Museum and Art Centre.
Hazlehurst Studios will be hosting from April 18th to June 28th. The launch event will take place on Thursday, April 18th, from 3pm to 8pm, providing an opportunity to meet some of the artists from the Hazlehurst Print group. There will be numerous opportunities to view the exhibition across this period.
The process resembles a game of pass-the-parcel; each exhibiting studio meticulously packages the entire collection, forwarding it to the next venue in the tour. Hot Bed Press will only have possession of the print collection at the commencement and conclusion of the exchange year.
