Mental Health is important, looking after ourselves and supporting those around us can be hard.
Halton Health Improvement Team can offer training that can help, from spotting the signs that we may be struggling, to tips on talking about mental health and where to get support from. No role playing, just practical activities, case studies and videos.
The training is free of charge to anyone living or working in Widnes and Runcorn. Delivered in person at your organisation or online via teams. For smaller organisations, they also have Community dates 3 times a year, included below.
Please contact Nyki Benson by email nyki.benson@halton.gov.uk or direct dial on 01515115360 if you would like to know more and see how they can help you to support your workforce, clients and their families.
Remember, a friendly ear to listen or even a hello from a stranger can make a big change to someone’s day.
Mental Health Awareness – 3 Hours
This session will cover what mental health is, the signs & symptoms of the most prevalent mental illnesses locally. We will provide you with some practical tips to have conversations about mental health.
It will provide you with some practical tools and resources that can help with various aspects of mental health and mental illness, including relevant signposting.
Mental Health Awareness for Managers – 3 Hours
As above, but for people managing others. Looking at how to support staff to have good mental health in the workplace; if they have a mental illness or not; and the benefits to your organisation. Sessions can be adapted to include any in-house support you offer to staff.
Suicide Awareness – 2 ½ Hours
The training will cover the myths and fears people can have about suicide. Also how to say and do the right thing for anyone feeling suicidal. The questions to ask, and where to appropriately signpost people who need support. People can be suicidal for very practical reasons.
Stress Awareness – 2 Hours
Stress, at the right level can help to get us through the day, and the different challenges we face. It can motivate and spur us on, however, too much stress can work negatively, stopping us doing things and reaching our full potential.
We can feel stressed and anxious because we are outside of our comfort zone. While that can be scary, it is normal. This training will help you to recognise this and develop coping strategies to manage those feelings.
We will look at what stress is and the different systems that control it. We will explain how and why the body responds to stress the way it does. We will use this information, to identify the changes you notice in your own body when you’re stressed, and how to apply the coping strategies and tools to get us through stressful situations.
The hope from attending this training, is that you will be able to recognise, and in turn better manage or reduce your own stress. It could also help you to better understand an manage physical conditions that can be affected by stress.
