A new chapter is underway for one of the North West’s most historic railway routes, with the Liverpool to Manchester Community Rail Partnership (CRP) officially becoming a member of the Community Rail Network.
Supported by Manchester Histories and its partners, the partnership aims to strengthen connections between communities and railway stations along the route, while celebrating the area’s rich industrial and cultural heritage.
The CRP will work with communities across the railway corridor to:
- 🤝 Build stronger partnerships with communities and stations
- 🚆 Develop inclusive and accessible travel initiatives
- 🎨 Support local heritage, arts, STEM and environmental projects
- 🌱 Encourage sustainable, community-led rail development
- 📚 Help bring the history and heritage of the Liverpool–Manchester railway to life
The partnership covers communities along routes including the Chat Moss Line and Cheshire Lines route, connecting places from Edge Hill and Eccles to Patricroft and Padgate.
Looking towards 200 years of railway history
The Community Rail Partnership will also play a role in Rocket: All Aboard, a major programme celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway – the world's first inter-city passenger railway. The programme aims to bring together communities, cultural organisations and partners to explore the railway's impact on people, places, industry and innovation.
The development of the CRP provides an opportunity for local communities and organisations to get involved, share their stories and help shape future activity along this historic route.
