Residents are invited to come together to celebrate Refugee Week in St Helens with two free, community-focused events that highlight diversity, inclusion, and local support.
The celebrations begin on Saturday 13 June, with a World Street Eats event taking place at St Helens Parish Church from 11am to 4pm. The event will showcase a variety of international cuisines, alongside music and community activities, offering an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the borough in a welcoming and family-friendly setting.
The following day, Sunday 14 June, local teams Hope United and Brookvale Albion will face off in a friendly football match at the PSD Stadium, Ruskin Drive (3pm kick-off). The event forms part of the wider Refugee Week programme and aims to bring communities together through sport, with food and refreshments also available on the day.
Alongside the celebrations, organisers are encouraging donations to support local residents. Donations of adult and children’s football boots will be collected and distributed across St Helens, helping to increase access to sport. There will also be a collection of non-perishable food items for the St Helens Mobile Pantry, supporting individuals and families in need.
Both events are free to attend and offer a great opportunity for people to connect, celebrate and give back to their local community.
