Vision Support is a local charity providing essential services for people living with a vision impairment throughout North-East Wales and parts of Cheshire. Established in 1876 Vision Support provides support such has rehabilitation officers, digital skills training, counselling, peer support opportunities and many more to reduce the negative effects that a vision impairment can have upon an individual’s life.
Vision Support is excited to launch their Brighter Futures Wellbeing Hub, a project funded by the National Lottery aimed at providing information and advice for people living with a vision impairment in order to improve their wellbeing.
Living with a vision impairment no matter what age or eye condition can have a significant impact upon wellbeing due to reduced self-esteem, reduced confidence, and ability to out and about, social isolation with many people reporting feelings of anxiety and depression.
Nia Greer, North Wales Operations Manager at Vision Support said “the emotional impact of sight loss is significant. The aim of the hub is to provide information about what services are available in your area as well as ideas about steps to take to improve wellbeing. What sets our information hub out from others is that all the apps and websites showcased have been tested to ensure that they are accessible to people using magnification or screen reading software therefore reducing barriers to access services”.
Susan Lees, Service User and Volunteer, Wrexham commented “Internet and app resources as a way of accessing information, services and communicating with others has become more and more popular for many people living with a vision impairment due to various devices and assistive technology software. The information hub will be a really useful tool to check to see what is available in my area rather than having to look through multiple websites/sources of information”.
The Brighter Futures Wellbeing Hub launched on Friday 26th August.
