Public Urged To Use NHS 111 Or The NHS App Ahead Of Doctor Strikes
People across Cheshire and Merseyside are being urged to use NHS 111 or the NHS App for all non-emergency healthcare needs ahead of industrial action by resident doctors (previously known as junior doctors).
Unions have announced a six-day walkout of resident doctors from Tuesday, 7 April to Monday, 13 April 2026.

Thousands of people across Cheshire and Merseyside are avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions, thanks to the region’s urgent community response (UCR) services.
Since April 2024, more than 64,000 people have been referred to UCR teams, which provide rapid health and social care in people’s homes.

NHS Outlines How It Will Help Improve Access to GP Practices Across Cheshire and Merseyside
A new report sets out NHS Cheshire and Merseyside’s plan for improving access and making it easier and simpler for patients to access the care they need, and supporting GP practices to manage demand and capacity through a range of additional measures. In 2023/24 this will be supported by a total of £90 million investment in primary care general practice and related measures contained in the plan.
There are a total of 349 GP practices across Cheshire and Merseyside, covering a population of 2.7 million people.

Doctors across Cheshire and Merseyside are encouraging patients to make the most of the options available to them when managing their outpatient appointments.
Figures for 2022 show that there were over 4.5 million outpatient appointments across Cheshire and Merseyside, with more than 400,000 of those being missed.
