More Than 550 Visitors Enjoy Free STEAM Festival at Catalyst

More than 550 people enjoyed free entry to Catalyst Science Discovery Centre over the weekend of 11–12 July as the Centre hosted its popular STEAM Festival, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Chemical Business Association (CBA).

The free event welcomed families from across the region to take part in an exciting programme of interactive science and arts activities, alongside Catalyst’s hands-on galleries. By removing the financial barrier to entry, the festival enabled hundreds of visitors to experience science in an engaging, inclusive and accessible way.

Nikki Burton-Mallott, CEO of Catalyst Science Discovery Centre, said:

“There is still a perception that science is for certain people, but at Catalyst we believe science is for everyone. We were delighted to welcome more than 550 visitors over the weekend and to see so many families enjoying everything the Centre has to offer.

“By working with the Chemical Business Association, we were able to remove the financial barrier for this event and create opportunities for people of all ages to discover, explore and be inspired by science. Seeing so many children and adults learning together is exactly what Catalyst is all about.”

The event formed part of the Chemical Business Association’s Generation STEAM initiative, which aims to inspire young people by showcasing the wide range of opportunities that STEAM skills can unlock across industries including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, digital technologies, sustainability, construction and the creative industries.

The Chemical Business Association said:

“Generation STEAM is about far more than inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. It is about opening young people’s eyes to the incredible breadth of opportunities that exist across every sector of our economy and showing that whatever their interests or ambitions, there is a place where they can make a real difference.

“Catalyst provides the perfect environment to make learning exciting, interactive and accessible, helping young people to explore new ideas and discover possibilities they may never have considered before.”

Catalyst is now inviting families to continue their science adventure throughout the summer holidays. The Centre is open every day from 17 July to 30 August, with a changing programme of hands-on workshops and activities taking place alongside its interactive galleries.

With an Annual Pass offering unlimited return visits for a full year, Catalyst provides exceptional value for families, allowing visitors to come back time and again to enjoy new workshops, seasonal events and exhibitions throughout the year.
