Friends of Victoria Park have been named winners of the Volunteer Team Award at the Halton and St Helens VCA Volunteer Awards 2026, recognising their outstanding contribution to their local park and the wider community.
The award celebrates a team whose collective efforts, creativity and commitment have helped transform a much-loved public space into a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive place for people of all ages.
Throughout the year, the volunteers organise an impressive programme of activities and events designed to bring the community together. These include music events showcasing local talent, wildlife walks, family activities and festive celebrations.
One particularly valued initiative is their low-cost Christmas Grotto, which helps ensure local families can enjoy the magic of Christmas regardless of their circumstances. The team has also created an interactive animal trail for children, encouraging young visitors to discover nature while having fun.
Their contribution extends beyond events and activities. The group has supported environmental improvements, funded replacement trees, helped develop the community garden and played a role in ensuring life-saving equipment is available within the park.
Their dedication has helped maintain the park's high standards and its continued Green Flag recognition.
However, perhaps the team's greatest achievement is the sense of belonging they have helped create. Through their work, Friends of Victoria Park have encouraged community pride, brought people together and helped make the park a focal point for local life.
The award was presented by Sally Yeoman MBE, Chief Executive of Halton and St Helens VCA, and Claire Redford-Kerr at The Heath in Runcorn.
The award recognises not only the activities delivered by the group, but also the countless hours volunteers contribute behind the scenes to create opportunities for others.
Halton and St Helens VCA congratulates Friends of Victoria Park on their well-deserved award and thanks every member of the team for helping create a greener, more welcoming and connected community.
