Professionals working with children and young people affected by exploitation are invited to join a free national webinar exploring how anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice can be embedded across safeguarding services.

Organised by the NWG Exploitation Network, the session will launch a new Practice and Knowledge Briefing: Embedding Anti-Racist and Anti-Oppressive Practice when Working with Children Subject to or at Risk of Exploitation.
The webinar will explore how racial inequity and systemic bias can influence the way professionals understand risk, vulnerability and victimhood, and the potential impact this can have on children and young people affected by exploitation.
Topics will include racism, adultification, dehumanisation and systemic bias, alongside practical approaches to strengthening culturally responsive, child-centred and anti-racist practice.
The session will also provide an opportunity for practitioners and leaders to reflect on current practice and consider how organisations and safeguarding partnerships can identify and challenge inequity.
What will the session cover?
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Understand the key messages and practical implications of the new Practice and Knowledge Briefing.
- Explore how racism, racial inequity, adultification, dehumanisation and systemic bias can influence safeguarding responses.
- Reflect on current practice and identify opportunities to strengthen anti-racist and anti-oppressive approaches.
- Explore practical approaches to culturally responsive and child-centred safeguarding.
- Learn how an audit tool can support organisational reflection, learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
The webinar is aimed at frontline practitioners, managers, senior leaders, commissioners, safeguarding partners, voluntary and community sector colleagues, and others involved in supporting children and young people affected by exploitation.
