Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Drive Ability North West service offers professional, high quality information, advice and assessment to individuals who have a medical condition or are recovering from an accident or injury which may affect their ability to drive, access or exit a motor vehicle.
They see both learners and experienced drivers and referrals are accepted from clients, carers, doctors and health professionals.
Advice can be given on getting in and out of a vehicle and wheelchair/scooter loading. They also offer mobility scooter suitability assessments, and specialist car seat assessments for disabled children.
They have a fleet of vehicles fitted with a wide range of adaptations to enable people to try appropriate adaptations and help them in making an informed choice on remaining independently mobile.
The service also offers tuition for drivers changing to a different method of vehicle control and for people with more complex needs who wish to learn to drive.
