Dear Colleague
I am writing regarding an exciting new initiative from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), our new Access Without Limits Fund for community organisations. Through support from the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, we are able to give support and a grant of up to £10,250 to a limited number of eligible voluntary sector organisations over the next 3 years in the Liverpool City Region. The funding is to enable organisations to licence and deliver the DofE, with the aim of enabling more young people to access the award.
The DofE is the world’s leading youth achievement award, currently being delivered in over 130 countries, with the purpose of developing young people for adult life. The programme we offer has transformed the lives of millions of young people for over 60 years. Our vision is to reach more young people from marginalised backgrounds and to provide opportunities for personal development and recognition of personal achievements.
Through this new Access Without Limits funding, our ambition is to build new links with voluntary and community organisations that work with young people outside of formal education settings, to extend opportunities for marginalised young people to access the DofE. Should you wish to be involved in this project, we can support a limited number of eligible organisations to help establish the DofE and link our programme to the existing activities you provide your young people.
This support package would include funding for equipment and training, a greatly reduced licence fee, and direct assistance from a DofE Operations Officer.
After 3 years of close support, we anticipate you will have developed a wealth of experience to enable your continued delivery of the DofE and to provide further opportunities for your young people to develop and grow in their journey towards adulthood.
The grant launched on the 4th of July. The amount we can award is limited each year, but there will be additional opportunities to access the funding in each of the three years of the project.
Qualifying criteria
- Must be incorporated.
- Supporting YP in the target areas – Liverpool, Knowsley, Halton or St Helens
- Not for profit
- At least a year old
- Not been licensed with DofE Award for at least 6 months
- Have at least two signatories
- Have a dissolution clause
- Have two unrelated people on the board
- Have an established and engaged group of young people between the ages of 14-25
- Commitment to become a direct delivery centre for DofE Award and continue beyond the period of funding. (3 years)
