Outstanding volunteer-led groups across Merseyside are being encouraged to seek national recognition through the King's Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) 2027, the highest award given to local volunteer groups and often described as the "MBE for volunteer groups".
The Merseyside Lieutenancy is calling on community leaders, local organisations, public sector partners and residents to help identify and nominate exceptional volunteer-led groups that are making a real difference in their communities.
KAVS recognises volunteer groups that provide outstanding service and demonstrate a significant positive impact on the lives of others. The award offers an opportunity to celebrate the dedication, commitment and achievements of volunteers while showcasing the strength of communities across Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.
Unlike many awards programmes, organisations cannot nominate themselves. Volunteer groups must be put forward by an independent nominator, supported by two letters of endorsement from individuals or organisations familiar with the group's work.
The Merseyside Lieutenancy is encouraging local partners and community champions to:
- Nominate outstanding volunteer-led groups from within their networks.
- Share information about the King's Award for Voluntary Service with colleagues, volunteers and community contacts.
- Highlight the opportunity through newsletters, websites, social media and other communications channels.
- Encourage strong volunteer-led organisations to seek support from independent nominators.
The award provides a valuable opportunity to celebrate the incredible contribution volunteers make to communities across Merseyside while helping deserving organisations gain the national recognition they deserve.
