Submission for Ebulletin

A warm welcome from Sally Yeoman MBE, CEO

Welcome to the latest Halton & St Helens VCA Newsletter.

As we move further into the autumn season, this edition celebrates the remarkable people, organisations and volunteers who make such a positive difference across Halton and St Helens, while also highlighting a wide range of opportunities to learn, connect, support others and strengthen our communities.

A particular highlight this month is our coverage of the Halton & St Helens VCA Volunteer Awards 2026, where outstanding volunteers and community organisations were recognised for their dedication, compassion and impact. Their achievements remind us of the vital role volunteering plays in creating stronger, more connected communities.

We're also sharing a number of employment and leadership opportunities, including vacancies with Age UK Mid Mersey and Apex Charitable Trust, as well as a call for new Directors to support the continued success of LOOSE and The Studio in Widnes.

For organisations looking to build skills and capacity, you'll find details of Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Training, guidance on setting up a community organisation, charity or Community Interest Company, opportunities to contribute to our Digital Inclusion Survey, and an important update on the new statutory Information Sharing Duty for safeguarding children and young people.

This edition also shines a spotlight on the many wellbeing and community activities available across our boroughs, including Family Food Growing Workshops, Neurodiverse-Friendly Hatha Yoga, Free Community Dance and Performing Arts Sessions, new activities at Vees Place, affordable counselling support through NCNW, and preparations for the St Helens Cost of Living and Winter Preparedness Event.

As winter approaches, we're asking groups across Halton to help us build our Warm Spaces & Positive Activities Directory, while continuing to support initiatives such as the Winter Coat Project to ensure local residents can access practical support during the colder months.

We're also encouraging organisations to consider nominating exceptional volunteer-led groups for the King's Award for Voluntary Service 2027, providing a fantastic opportunity to secure national recognition for the outstanding work taking place across our communities.

As always, thank you for everything you do to support local people. Your commitment, partnership and dedication continue to make a real and lasting difference across Halton and St Helens.

If your organisation has a news story, event, funding opportunity, training course, consultation, volunteering opportunity or community initiative that you'd like us to share with our network, please send the details to news@haltonsthelensvca.org.uk.

Together, we can continue to celebrate, champion and strengthen the fantastic work taking place across our communities.

With best wishes,

Sally Yeoman MBE

New Information Sharing Duty Strengthens Safeguarding for Children and Young People (St Helens)

A new statutory duty to share information for safeguarding purposes came into effect on 30 September 2026, strengthening multi-agency arrangements to protect and support children and young people. The guidance places a clear legal expectation on safeguarding partners and relevant agencies to share information proactively where it may help safeguard or promote a child's welfare. It also clarifies that consent is not required for safeguarding-related information sharing and confirms that data protection legislation should not be seen as a barrier to protecting children.

Organisations and practitioners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new requirements and help embed the guidance across their services.
