You may already know that many of us have Irish, Welsh, Polish and Lithuanian ancestors, who came to the borough to work in the industries, but did you know, for example, that we also have residents from Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, Africa, the “middle east” to name but a few? And what about a Viking or two?

They will have a series of visual art workshops and they want to know what part of your heritage you would like to explore in the session: Traditional dress, Food, textiles, transport, landscape, trades etc.

The Programme will be formed from your responses.

Volunteers are needed across all six stages for once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a core part in the world’s biggest annual sporting event when it comes to Britain. Application portal is open now until 1 September 2026.

The nationwide search is on to find 9,000 volunteers across Scotland, England and Wales, who will be at the heart of the historic Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Départs in summer 2027, as the application portal officially opens.

Officially known as JOY Makers, named in line with the Grand Départs’ social impact programme, volunteers will be the heartbeat of both races, bringing the joy of cycling to fans and communities throughout the six stages, and helping to ensure the sport’s most iconic races runs seamlessly.

West Lancashire Council for Voluntary Service (West Lancs CVS) has announced a range of new job opportunities following the award of a four-year National Lottery grant to support its core services and develop new income generation initiatives.

The organisation is expanding its team and is currently recruiting for three part-time roles:

• Business Development Manager (20 hours per week)
• Operations Manager (16 hours per week)
• Business Support Officer (16 hours per week)

These roles will play a key part in helping West Lancs CVS deliver its services and explore new ways to support local voluntary and community organisations.

In this exciting two-hour Halton Short Breaks session, your young person will take part in an introductory 3D pen workshop before using templates to create items such as keyrings, badges, jewellery, finger puppets and more.

This workshop is for young people aged young people aged 8–17 in Halton with a current EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) or 15+ hours of assessed support needs, and a diagnosis of a hearing or visual impairment, learning or physical disability, chronic or life-threatening condition, communication need (including autism), consciousness disorder, or mental health need.

Residents are invited to a free Health and Wellbeing Event taking place on Saturday 20 June, 10am–4pm at Queen’s Park Leisure Centre, St Helens.

The event will bring together a range of local health and wellbeing services, offering information, advice and support to help people live well.

There will also be resources on healthy lifestyles for individuals and families, alongside the Living Well Bus providing cervical screening.

This is a great opportunity to find out about local support and services available in the community.

The Rainford Junction Bluegrass and Old Time Festival is designed with inclusivity and community at its heart, creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages. The festival site is organised into smaller community-style areas where visitors are encouraged to join in informal music sessions, making it a truly interactive and engaging experience.

Live music will be played across the entire site throughout the event, offering an uplifting atmosphere and the chance for attendees to immerse themselves in the unique sounds of bluegrass and old time music.

As part of Culture 26: Made in Halton the Beyond the Tracks Music Trail will be hosting a British Sign Language (BSL) walk.

A qualified BSL Interpreter will be taking part in the walk on Friday the 17th of July and will begin at 11:30am meeting at Widnes Train Station.

The creators of the trail will be taking part and be available to answer questions along the route.

The walk is 5 miles long and includes walking over the Silver Jubilee Bridge.

All are welcome.
