Compassionate Initiatives In St Helens Borough To Tackle Stigma

Motivated by the desire for a more compassionate and understanding society, St Helens Borough Council and independent research charity Institute of Voluntary Action Research (IVAR) have supported the promotion of a new Anti-Stigma Charter, produced by people in St Helens Borough who experienced stigma that compounded their drug and alcohol use.

This initiative was developed by people with lived experience of stigma and calls on organisations, businesses, communities and individuals to understand the impact of stigma of people with drug or alcohol related problems and the services that support them, recognising stigma as one of the greatest barriers to people getting the support and treatment they need.

St Helens Mind - Men's Mental Health Project

This project aims to deliver a support program for men aged 18-25. The program will consist of four 12-week cohorts per year, each supporting 8 participants.

The goal is to provide a structured, supportive environment where men can learn coping strategies, improve emotional awareness, and develop a strong support network.

Community Generosity Helps Catalyst Acquire New A3 Scanner

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum in Widnes is excited to announce that, thanks to the generous donation of Widnes Rotary Club, they are now able to purchase a state-of-the-art A3 scanner.

This new equipment will greatly enhance their ability to digitize, preserve, and share important documents, and resources. The larger A3 format means they can now scan materials that were previously too large for standard devices, expanding both the quality and the scope of their work.

Celebrating Network For Europe’s Legacy – Apply Now For A £500 Grant

For almost 40 years, Network for Europe has played a vital role in supporting the not-for-profit sector across the North West to access and manage European funding, helping our communities to thrive.

As the organisation closes its doors, Network for Europe has chosen to leave a final legacy. Working in partnership with Voluntary Sector North West (VSNW), its remaining funds will be used to create a one-off £500 grant for a small not-for-profit organisation in our region.

The grant will celebrate and shine a spotlight on an activity that makes a difference. Something your organisation is proud of, that strengthens community cohesion, and that supports economic, cultural, or social integration.

The deadline is 3rd November 2025, and the prize will be announced at VSNW’s AGM on 27th November.

Parr Cradle to Career NEET Offer Fund

Right To Succeed are inviting applications from organisations interested in designing and delivering provision that supports young people in Parr who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) or at risk of becoming NEET. Funding of up to £38,700 is available across three workstreams, each with a maximum of £12,900

The deadline for submissions is Friday 17th October 2025 at 6pm.

Introducing '20 for 20' -Funding For Halton Groups

Halton Housing Trust are celebrating their 20th anniversary this December, and to mark this special milestone, they're launching '20 for 20' — an exciting initiative designed to give back to the communities they serve.

They’ll be awarding £1,000 each to 20 inspiring community projects or initiatives that are making a real difference locally.

Baby Loss Awareness Week 9th - 14th October

This October, we mark Baby Loss Awareness Week 2025—a time to raise awareness of pregnancy and infant loss while honoring and supporting families who grieve. The week provides space for sharing stories, fostering understanding, and building compassion, reminding us that no one has to face this journey alone.

 

Baby Loss Awareness Week St Helens

 

Will be opening on the afternoon of: Wednesday 15th October 2025 between 12noon - 3pm and hosting a Sunrise Ceremony Hall and between 5pm - 7pm Sunset Ceremony Hall For anyone wanting to visit, reflect or simply light a candle.

The team will be there to support you or someone you know, who has experienced baby loss.

The Bereavement Services Team and the Friends of St Helens Cemetery group will be available at the events.

Baby Loss Awareness Week Halton

Widnes Babyloss Awareness Group will be hosting 3 events in October.

Bandstand ribbon decorating will take place at Victoria Park Bandstand on Sunday the 5th of October at 1:00pm.

A Lantern Walk with take place on Friday the 10th of October.

A Wave of Light service with take place at St Luke's Church in Farnworth on Sunday the 12th of October at 6:00pm in remembrance of all babies lost, however old, and no matter how long ago.

New Crisis Café to Host Community Open Evening in St Helens

A new wellbeing initiative, Crisis Café 110, is inviting local residents to its upcoming open evening on Friday, 10th October from 4pm to 6pm.

The café, aims to provide a safe and welcoming space for people seeking support with their mental health. Visitors will be able to meet the team behind the project, learn more about the services available, and connect with others in the community.

Educate Your Plate: Funded Wellbeing and Longevity Sessions

Educate Your Plate CIC has been awarded £19,980 from The National Lottery Community Fund to deliver a life-changing project right here in Widnes and Halton.

This two-year initiative will support up to 300 local women through free weekly sessions designed to improve health, wellbeing and longevity – not just for themselves, but for their families too.

Halton Virtual School Conference

The Halton Virtual School Conference will be held on Wednesday 22nd October, 8.45am-4pm, at the DCBL stadium.

The key note speaker will be Ashley John-Baptise. Some of you may recognise Ashley from BBC’s The One Show fame.

Alongside his role as an award-winning broadcaster and TV presenter, Ashley John-Baptiste is an inspirational speaker who shares his own story of navigating the care system, and is the founder of 'Be Inspired' events which aim to spark aspirations of people who have spent time in care.

Open Day And Fundraiser Event

Joy Free Job Training are a new CIC based in St Helens, their mission is to empower single mothers, Asylum seekers and refugee women, women with criminal records, and women facing barriers to employment by equipping them with professional tailoring skills, creative fashion technologies, and business knowledge that will enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.

They are holding an open day on 18th October at 3pm to 6pm to help to fundraise and raise awareness of their work in supporting women into skills and employment.

Online Menopause Talks

Would you like to know more about the menopause?

North West libraries health network has recently been given some funding to do some work on the menopause and as a result has programmed 5 online talks about the menopause.

Each talk looks at a different aspect of the menopause and perimenopause. Each talk will be recorded, so you can catch up later if you can’t watch it live.

Have you heard about The Community Lottery – for local good causes?

Charities, community organisations, social business and community groups of all shapes and sizes can sign up, free of charge and get a slice of the ticket proceeds.

A generous 60% of the ticket proceeds from the the Community Lottery will go to charities, voluntary organisations and other not-for-profit groups with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.
