Volunteer Recruitment Fairs

Come and join us at our Volunteer Recruitment Fairs in Halton and St Helens – we would love you to come along and showcase the great work you do and the fantastic ways that volunteers can support you.

It will also be a great way to network and collaborate – find out about the different services, activities and support on offer.

We'd like as many groups and organisations to join us in showcasing the variety of volunteering roles our residents can get involved in and will be promoting the event to our partners acrossand  Halton  St.Helens.

Members of the public with an interest in volunteering will be invited to come along and find out more about local causes.

If you would like to come along to promote your project at either location, bring some pull up stands and information leaflets etc. and just hang out with us.

People Over 40 Encouraged To Get Their Blood Pressure Checked

To mark World Hypertension Day and May Measure Month, NHS Cheshire and Merseyside is urging people over 40 to check their blood pressure.

Since October 2021, pharmacies across the North West have delivered over 867,000 checks, identifying more than 93,000 people with high or very high readings—helping prevent strokes and heart attacks through early intervention.

This year’s theme is: “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer!”

Over the past week, we have had a number of emails offering to give away their late husbands Yamaha baby grand piano, we have been informed that this could be a scam.

Having googled it ourselves, we have found that it is a current scam.

We have been contacted by Clare Agnew from PMSGS who is looking to rent office space in Halton, Monday-Friday for long-term use. (approx. 20’ x 20’) which is secure and has WiFi (and ideally free parking!)

St Helens Wellbeing Service Survey

Residents of St Helens are being asked to share their views to help shape the future of the borough’s Wellbeing Service.

A public survey is now open as part of a service review, covering areas such as stop smoking support, mental health, healthy weight, and oral health. Feedback is welcomed from all residents, regardless of whether you have used the service before.

Catalyst Supports The Local Community

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum in Widnes is offering discounted admission throughout June for residents in the WA7 and WA8 postcode areas.

Locals can access reduced entry rates by showing proof of address, as part of a new community pricing initiative aimed at making the museum more accessible to families.

All Together Smiling Programme launches oral health roadshow across Cheshire and Merseyside

A fun, interactive oral health roadshow is touring Cheshire and Merseyside from 12 May to 12 June as part of National Smile Month. Delivered through the All Together Smiling Programme and supported by NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, the initiative aims to promote dental hygiene and tackle tooth decay in vulnerable communities.

The Alder Hey mobile unit will visit nine locations, including community hubs and shopping centres.

Youth Guarantee Trailblazer

The LCR Combined Authority as Liverpool City Region has been designated by the government as a Youth Guarantee Trailblazer (YGT).

This means they will be delivering a year-long programme of activities to support young people aged between 18-21 across Liverpool City Region who are not in education, employment, or training.

They want to hear from young people who live in the Liverpool City Region as they deliver the programme and so they will be convening a Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

Social Isolation and Loneliness Training Now Live

Almost 500 people attended webinars this week as the Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) launched its new Social Isolation and Loneliness Training.

The sessions explored the themes of social isolation, loneliness, and the value of meaningful connection, while also introducing the newly developed course content.

The updated course draws on feedback from the original program, current research, and real-life experiences.

Cancer Alliance Film Launch Event

Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance is launching its Halton campaign ‘Two Minutes of Chat & an Early Screening’, aimed at encouraging everyday conversations that lead to life-saving cancer screenings for breast, bowel, and cervical cancer.

The launch event will feature a campaign film with actors Will Mellor and Ralf Little, plus a panel of experts and local residents sharing tips on starting cancer-related chats.

Landlines in the UK are going digital by 2027. Although the landline isn’t going away, you might have questions or would like to know more about this industry-wide change. 

A Digital Switchover Information Drop-in event, hosted alongside BT, is being held at Hale Village Hall on Tuesday 20th May.

No need to book, just drop in and speak to the friendly experts.

Join Digital Arts Box this May half-term for their Digital Arts Get Togethers – fun, free creative events for families and anyone from the community! Whether you want to try something new or just hang out and get creative, these sessions are the perfect way to keep young people entertained during the holidays.
 

They'll be running sessions in both Runcorn and Widnes, packed with LEGO building, 3D pen crafts, digital art, games, and more

MAP Training Sessions - Halton

The demand for early help support in Halton is increasing, meaning professionals are busier than ever and we are all struggling with capacity. To help support with this, a condensed early help assessment is being re-launched, which is easy to use while still assessing the needs of families, children and young people in Halton.

MAP training is not mandatory, but will provide you with the tools and skills to enable you, the practitioner to take part in the MAP (Multi-Agency Plan) process.

Halton Funding Bulletin - May 2025

The Programmes Office Team at Halton Borough Council have produced their latest monthly Funding Bulletin covering recent grants alerts.

If you would like support to bid to any of the funding streams listed in the Bulletin, they can support with this.

They have also provided information on their forthcoming workshops commencing October/November in Widnes.

St Helens Community Library Grant Scheme

The Community Library Grant Scheme aims to support groups to establish a library offer within their community.

This will be done by offering up to a maximum of £5,000 for one-off grant funding to community organisations or community interest companies who are working within St Helens Borough.

Have you heard about The Community Lottery – for local good causes?

Charities, community organisations, social business and community groups of all shapes and sizes can sign up, free of charge and get a slice of the ticket proceeds.

A generous 60% of the ticket proceeds from the the Community Lottery will go to charities, voluntary organisations and other not-for-profit groups with the remainder being put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.
