Through the St Helens Borough Community Food Providers Allaince we have many local community organisations working together delivering food projects across the Borough.

Recognising more and more people in our communities are facing financial hardship, we are constantly looking at how we can work together as community organisations, charities and the public sector to ensure there is access to affordable and nutritious food for EVERYONE.

Here is a summary of our extensive community food provision.

A milestone was reached on the 7th June 2024 for Apex Charitable Trust’s, Kim Hughes. 
Kim started with the charity as a volunteer in 1998 and an employee from June 1999 and progressed to CEO in 2015. Celebrations took place at their office base on North Road, St Helens which is also home to their community coffee shop – Plan Bee, where the Mayor was in attendance along with Dr Ruth Hussey CB, OBE, DL - Deputy Lieutenant for Merseyside.

The day was recognised by the charities Board of Trustees and the staff/volunteer team as well key people who have been part of Kim’s journey over the years.

End of Life Partnership (EOLP) have been commissioned by Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance to find out about the experiences of people who are living with a diagnosis of both dementia and cancer.

The aim of this work is to improve support for people who are living with these two conditions, and for those who provide care for them (this includes both family/informal carers and professionals).

They have two different opportunities available for people who are living with both diagnoses and/or informal carers who may wish to share their experiences with their team.

Citizens Advice St Helens are the largest provider of free specialist advice in St Helens. Their services are delivered through their town centre base and other high-profile agencies. They deliver debt, welfare rights and benefits, energy and generalist advice through their town centre drop-in and various outreach sites as well as telephone advice and support.

They are seeking Trustees to bring their skills and experience to the Board, which sets direction and ensures good governance. Trustees volunteer to bring their time and knowledge to build on our vision. They are welcoming Trustees with relevant professional or life experience.

Rebuild With Hope's pop up sale is coming up on Wednesday 7th August  at Mansion House, City Road, Victoria Park, St Helens, WA10 2UE from 10:30am - 1:30pm

Do you have any stories of Halton from the past 50 years?

Halton Heritage Partnership (HHP) is commissioning a performance piece which will illustrate the connections between people that have shaped Halton over the past 50 years.  Performances at a number of venues across the borough will be free to attend and are made possible thanks to SIF funding allocated by Halton Borough Council as part of Halton 50 celebrations.

Using stories gathered from the local community, Kate Allerston and Chris Bastock (A Place for Us CIC) will create the performance’s script.  It will take the form of a love letter for Halton.
