Refugee Resettlement Service, St Helens Borough Council Volunteers required to signpost people at a conference - no experience required St Helens Borough Council's Refugee Resettlement Service are looking for volunteers to assist in the smooth running of a conference in June. The conference is aimed at education practitioners who are interested in, and enthusiastic about, supporting refugee and asylum seeking children and their families in St Helens; and we invite volunteers who are interested in learning more about asylum seekers and refugees to share our learning at the event. This will be a whole day event starting at 9am and running to 3:30pm and volunteers are expected to arrive 30 minutes earlier to help with the setting up and learning about their responsibilities and to leave 30 minutes later to help with the tidying up. The conference will be focusing on celebrating diversity, enabling inclusion and embracing the evolving cultural landscape of our borough. There will be keynote speakers, workshops and stories shared of lived experience from some of our residents. Furthermore, there will be exhibits of art to enjoy on the day and volunteers will be welcome to join in with the discussions when their duties are temporarily not needed. This is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to learn more about asylum seekers and refugees living in the Borough, as well as develop their understanding of different cultures and traditions and learning more about the education service in St Helens. This is the first event of its kind in St Helens on such a large scale and will cover such themes as: enabling a sense of belonging; supporting multilingualism and mitigating language barriers; cultural sensitivity; parental engagement; and trauma informed approaches. · https://volunteering.haltonsthelensvca.org.uk/volunteers/opportunity/10221729 If you have any forthcoming community events and would like to invite them along contact Michael Melia via michaelmelia@sthelens.gov.uk
