The Home Office has launched a public consultation on its revised proposals for this the standard tier (premises with a capacity of between 100 – 799). This consultation is targeted at organisations, businesses, local and public authorities, and individuals who own or operate publicly accessible premises or events that the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill will potentially affect.

It seeks views from those responsible for smaller premises which would fall within the standard tier

The consultation aims to ensure that new measures strike the right balance between public protection and avoiding disproportionate burdens on premises. If you fall into the standard tier category, you can ensure your views are heard prior to the bill’s introduction.

Deadline for consultations: 11:59pm on Monday 18th March 2024

Halton and St Helen's VCA, Fortuna Female Society, and SHAP are launching a new peer support cafe for women affected by domestic abuse at St Maries, Lugsdale Road, Widnes, 1 - 2.

This informal, peer led group is an opportunity for women who have been impacted by domestic abuse to get together to chat and support each other.

This is a free drop in group, booking is not necessary. Free parking and light refreshments are available.

Children are welcome to come along with their parents but we are not able to provide activities or child care.

The first cafe is on Wednesday 20th March, 1 - 2.

St Helens Borough Council are launching a community grant to support community groups; initiatives; charities; and voluntary organisations who support asylum seekers and refugees and can evidence at least one of the following criteria:

Health and Wellbeing
Culture, Creativity and Community Cohesion
Informal ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

There is a launch event on the 28th March 2024 at 11am until 1pm in the St Helens Town Hall to explain more about the community grant and to network with various organisations who may be interested in the grant.

Child Bereavement UK are delivering two Bereavement support sessions:  

Face-to-face – Wednesday 20th March, 10am-12pm, at our St Maries office in Widnes. (Limited number of places remaining)

Online – Monday 25th March, 10-12pm, via zoom.

PERTH Community Centre  are holding their AGM (Annual General Meeting) on Tuesday 2nd April at 17:30 at the centre. 

An open invitation to join them for their AGM. It’s an opportunity to find out what goes on at the centre, future plans, contribute ideas and suggestions and find out how to join their board.

Halton Libraries, Halton Cancer Support, and Halton & St Helens VCA are working in partnership to offer a bereavement café in Halton.

This informal, peer led group is an opportunity for Halton's bereaved adults to get together to chat and support each other. The groups are held in two venues, St Maries, Widnes and Halton Lea Library, Runcorn.

Booking is not necessary. You do not have to be bereaved by cancer. Free parking is available at both venues.

Healthwatch St Helens Project Support Officer - Deadline Extended

Healthwatch St Helens is your local watchdog for health and social care services, helping people to get the best out of local services, whether it’s improving them today or helping to shape them for tomorrow. Local Healthwatch is all about local voices being able to influence the delivery and design of local services. Not just people who use them, but anyone who might need to in the future. Working in the voluntary sector with amazing people is so very rewarding and being part of our team gives you the opportunity to make a difference to lots of people across the borough of St Helens.

In this role you will be supporting the wider team encouraging local people to share their views about health and social care services, You will provide support in maintaining our ongoing social media presence, organising, promoting and running events in our communities to gather the views of local people. You will offer support to our volunteers and promote volunteering opportunities. You will be responsible for handling email and telephone enquiries, directing those enquiries and and carrying out general admin activities.

Salary: £25,286 per annum

Hours: 36 hours per week
