The Reader - Shared Reading "These stories help us. Everyone feels they are part of something." The Reader are looking for enthusiastic people to train as Reader Leaders to lead Shared Reading groups. Shared Reading is a chance to meet up and read and listen to great stories and poems and talk about them. They talk about them in any way they want to. Group members love Shared Reading. They say that it's a way to switch off, escape into a story, meet new people and talk about new kinds of things. They’re expanding their work in St Helens and Halton and looking for new people who can train and then commit 3-4 hours each week or fortnight on weekday daytimes to lead or co-lead a group. They have a group at Bookstop in St Helens and Widnes Library as well as care homes and hospitals in the area and are looking to start more at cafes and community centres. As a Reader Leader you will deliver sessions with small groups of people. You'll choose what you will read each week. You are given full training and ongoing support with this. The training is on Zoom on weekday, daytimes. Volunteers say they love the training. Some say "it's the best training I've ever done!" Their volunteers tell them that they get a huge amount out of the experience, meeting new people and supporting them to connect with and explore great stories and poems. See more about this on their website and if you are interested finding out more go here https://www.thereader.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-volunteer/
