St Helens Wellbeing Services - Breathe Buddy The project is to raise awareness of, and support families with child(ren) aged 0-5 with, or at risk of respiratory problems in the St Helens area. Having a child with a respiratory condition can often be overwhelming. Talking to others whose children have similar conditions can help you feel less isolated… there’s nothing like talking somebody who just gets it! All Breathe Buddies are given specific training on respiratory conditions that parents/carers may want to talk about. It is all about providing a non-clinical support to those who just need to talk and feel listened to. They offer signposting to organisations that can offer support with dealing with a child with respiratory issues, such as Asthma & lung UK, St Helens Wellbeing Services own in-house stop smoking service, or housing associations if they are experiencing mould/damp issues. They run pop up events at children’s centres and libraries to engage parents/carers in the programme. They also have Breathe Buddies in toddler groups if they prefer to talk whilst enjoying the social interaction of the group. This summer they have respiratory themed sessions running from children’s centres and libraries, where there will be an interactive story, and a fun craft to take home. All the session details be found on their social media pages (Facebook- @StHelensWellbeing & Twitter- @STHWellbeing), or they can call to find out more on 01744 371111. All sessions are FREE, but spaces are limited so must be booked.
