A FREE 2 hour online awareness session that will help anyone thinking about or has just set up a community business. From what legal structures are available and what you need to think about when managing buildings or other assets. Halton & St Helens VCA have teamed up with Locality to bring you this free 2 hour awareness session that will be facilitated on line. The session will benefit anyone wanting to explore what you will need to consider when setting up and managing a community business. Anyone attending will hear about what do we mean by community business along with showcasing a number of local and regional examples. You will have an introduction as to what legal structures are available and the benefits and draw backs to each of them...


Third Sector Trends 2022 in North West England

So far 3,360 voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises have joined the study. We really need you to take part in the North West, so that we can build a picture of what is happening locally in Halton and St Helens, what has changed since 2016 and 2019 and what you think is going to happen next. VS6 Food Mapping - Survey To Members To Capture Final Data

Following the VS6 Sustainable and Affordable Food event on 16th June, VS6 are currently in the process of finalising the Community Food Mapping exercise that was presented at the event. Community Food Mapping aims to visually map as many organisations as possible across the Liverpool City Region that work to improve the offer of and access to affordable food, whether this be a food bank, social supermarket, community café, community farms or anything else. If your organisation is involved in supporting communities to access food and you have not already provided details to the mapping exercise, please could you complete this short survey to provide your details to VS6 for inclusion within the mapping.The deadline for the survey is Friday 22nd July...


Funding Alerts With Imminent Deadlines - Youth Music (29 July); Young Persons (31 July)

Halton Funding Team have sent over two grant funding alerts that may be of interest. The first one is Youth Music Trailblazer Fund (29 July), grants of up to £30,000 are available to organisations in England for projects that support children and young people facing barriers to make, learn and earn in music. The second one is 7-Stars Foundation Young Persons Grant (31 July), Grants of up to £2,500 are available to charitable organisations supporting challenged and vulnerable young people under the age of 16 in the UK...

One Halton Re-Launched

New ways of working designed to transform health and care services and reduce inequalities for the128,200 residents of Halton started 1st July. One Halton brings together NHS organisations, Halton Borough Council, GP practices and voluntary organisations to join up services, support the health and care of Halton’s community, share ideas and resources and tackle the borough’s biggest problems together. Although One Halton has been working as a partnership for some time, these new arrangements are set out in law as part of changes happening across the country, marking a fundamental shift in how health and care services work together. The changes will also see the establishment of 42 Integrated Care Systems (ICS) covering the country, with Halton being one of nine places covered by the NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICS. One Halton’s ambition is to prevent more people becoming unwell, keep people living longer and healthier lives in their own homes and make sure that the right services are in the right places for those who really need them...

St Helens Community Survey from Heseltine Institute

University of Liverpool researchers have launched a survey to hear how St Helens residents feel about where they live. Working with St Helens Council, the researchers are keen to understand which local services, facilities and amenities residents use, how they access them, and what might be improved. The research, carried out by the Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place, is part of a project looking at ‘community assets’ – the places and people that help local communities thrive. The results of the survey will be used by the researchers to identify things that local residents feel are particularly important about where they live..


Fresh Beginnings

For the past few months, Barbara Freeman from Fresh Beginnings has been working on developing a cookery book ‘You can cook’ that is going to help people in the community who struggle to cook, helping them to gain the confidence they need to provide healthy, nutritious meals from scratch for families and individuals making mealtimes a positive experience. This book is full of simple recipes using canned, non-perishable, fresh and frozen foods. It also has additional tips and information on how to get confident in the kitchen, know your basics, advice on batch cooking and how to get the best out of your slow cooker...

Vision Support - Home Visitor

Vision Support supports people with sight loss to live a life that is fulfilling and seeks to build people’s confidence to become and maintain their independence. We are seeking to recruit a Home Visitor for people with sight loss. The post will be based from the Chester office with some home working. The role requires travel throughout an agreed geographical area within Cheshire West, providing practical help and support to enable individuals to live independently. Sponsored 5K Your Way

Local charity, Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support Group, are holding a " Sponsored 5K your way" event at 11am on Saturday 23rd July at Victoria Park, Widnes. They need an orange and blue army of support! They are your local Cancer Support Centre providing emotional and psychological support for Halton people, who are affected by cancer and would love to see the local community coming together to support others, get some fresh air and movement, recognise the work the charity does and follow the 5K course, perhaps as a tribute to someone you care about who has been affected by cancer...


Beyond Transformation Programme

Children and young people in Cheshire and Merseyside experience poor health outcomes and health inequalities, particularly in the vulnerable groups. The Beyond programme was set up to work to improve this across the whole of the Cheshire and Mersey region, making sure services from health, local authorities, education, the voluntary sector to work together well. To do this, the programme needs to talk to parents, carers and young people, to find out what matters most to you and how best to make sure your views count. St Helens Summer Couch to 5k - Book your Place

Registration for the St Helens Summer Couch to 5k programme is now open! The programme started on Monday 11th July and runs for 10 weeks, at a cost of just £15. Sessions take place Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-7pm on the track at Sutton Leisure Centre. You can attend 1 or both sessions (the session is repeated twice in a week). Couch to 5k is a fantastic way to improve your general fitness - you don't have to want to be a runner, you can even walk the whole programme. The amount of time you spend jogging (or fast walking) increases gradually over the 10 weeks. There's no pressure at all, you work at your own pace...

Community based Digital Inclusion Survey

Do you deliver Digital Inclusion activities across the Liverpool city region? VOLA has been commissioned by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to undertake some research and mapping into current Digital Inclusion activities that are happening on the ground in local communities across the city region, so that the overall picture at a city region level can be brought up to date. This is will also hopefully identify areas of good or promising practice and innovation in the community, as well as places where there may be gaps that need to be addressed; and will ultimately help to inform future LCR CA strategy around Digital inclusion, an area of work that is high on their list of priorities.  We intend to publish some of the data in a simple format on an online map that can be used by individuals and service providers help people to find out where they can go to get online, access training, etc.  The survey will not request any personal or commercially sensitive information, rather, quite simply we want to know what you do, where you do it, who you do it with, the scale of your provision and your views on usage and capacity...

KDC currently have a vacancy for a Direct Payments Officer, joining their Direct Payments Support Service team to be part of delivering a range of quality support, information and excellent guidance to enable people in Knowsley to use Direct Payments to meet their personal care and support needs. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the health and social care sector, particularly in relation to individualised budgets. Nightstop Temporary, Emergency Accommodation Availability

Nightstop currently have availability within their Temporary Emergency Accommodation. Individuals must be in receipt of Universal Credit. Unfortunately they cannot accept referrals for people who are in paid employment. They have a Zero-Exclusion Policy, they accept referrals from everyone, after a risk assessment has been carried out it will be taken to panel and a decision will be made to whether they can accommodate and support the individual. If you feel Nightstop would be suitable for any of your clients please get in touch. They can accept self or agency referrals ...
