Funding Available To Support People From Ethnically Diverse Backgrounds To Be More Active

Research shows that those already experiencing the greatest inequalities have been hardest hit by the impact of Covid-19. Funding from Sport England’s Tackling Inequality Fund has so far enabled MSP (Merseyside Sport) to provide financial support to over 60 organisations from across the Liverpool City Region to help them to engage people with long-term health conditions, disabilities and those from ethnically diverse communities and lower socio-economic backgrounds in projects designed to improve their physical and mental health through physical activity. However, they know that they have only scratched the surface and they want to support more organisations across Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and on the Wirral who help people from ethnically diverse backgrounds. They are therefore prioritising the current funding round to support these organisations with funding grants of up to £5,000 to run physical activity initiatives, with projects to be completed by March 2022.  They welcome expressions of interest from charitable organisations and constituted sports clubs, with funding being able to support organisations that are experiencing financial hardship and providing opportunities for their priority audience to be active either at home, online or in the community...

Important Update from Halton Borough Council On The Support For Afghan Refugees

Due to the crisis in Afghanistan – there have been a lot of very kind offers coming in from members of the public offering all types of support from donations, to rooms in their homes. Halton Council has for some time played, and continues to play, a significant role in the various refugee and asylum programmes.  The Council will continue to welcome refugees and asylum seekers to Halton.    They are currently working collaboratively with the Government and partners across the North West to support refugees and asylum seekers who have been displaced from their homes around the world. At the moment local community organisations who support asylum seekers and refugees have very little space left to receive donations – so they have been directing people to Care 4 Calais, and would ask, temporarily at least, that others do the same...
