iCAN Warning: Covid Vaccination Scam

Halton Trading Standards and Halton Clinical Commissioning Group is warning older residents to be alert, following reports that patients in their 90’s in Bolton have received phone calls to say they will be having their Covid vaccinations at home and that someone will be coming to their address on a certain time/date to do this. The patients have also been asked for payment to access the vaccination. This is a scam – no one will be contacted to have their vaccine at home and you will never be asked for payment.  Your GP practice will contact you directly to make an appointment to have the vaccination...

Business Interruption Insurance

Tens of thousands of small businesses are set to receive insurance payouts covering losses from the first national lockdown, following a court ruling. The Supreme Court found in favour of small firms receiving payments from business interruption insurance policies.  For some businesses it could provide a lifeline, allowing them to trade beyond the coronavirus crisis. The City watchdog, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), brought the test case, with eight insurers agreeing to take part in proceedings.  One of the insurers set to make significant payouts is Hiscox, which was challenged by 30,000 policyholders as part of the case...

COVID-19: SMS / Text message SCAMS

Thank you to St Helens Adult Safeguarding Unit for sharing a government leaflet drawing your attention to the more common types of criminal 'scams' currently being used. One particular type of scam has been highlighted through the National Safeguarding Chairs Network, following a number of incidents in London (and no doubt elsewhere). This scam involves informing the recipient that a vaccine jab is available for them and that they need to provide bank details to verify their identity...

St Helens Buddyboost Campaign - Active St Helens Press Release

Buddyboost is an inclusive challenge aimed at encouraging employees from across St Helens to be more active, as part of a virtual group of friends or colleagues supporting each other along the way.  Employees sign up to the free app as part of a group, and support each other to complete 26 minutes of physical activity a day for 26 days in a row – logging their progress on the app each day and sharing their progress and conversations with their buddy group. Activities can be done outside of normal working hours, but we would encourage employers to allow staff to use work time to take part too.  Colleagues can choose to spend their 26 minutes doing the likes of walking, jogging, dancing or doing a workout – anything that gets the heart pumping and of course ensuring that participation fits in with the latest Covid-19 social distancing guidance...

Census 2021

The census is coming. By taking part, you can help inform decisions on services that shape your community, such as healthcare, education and transport. The census is a unique survey that happens every 10 years. It gives us a snapshot of all the people and households in England and Wales – the most detailed information we have about our society. It’s important that you fill in your census questionnaire. Without the information you share, it’d be more difficult to understand your community’s needs and to plan and fund public services. In one way or another, your information touches the lives of every single person living in England and Wales, whether it’s through using census information to plan new schools, doctors’ surgeries or bike lanes. Because these things matter to us all, everyone needs to complete the census...

Your Views Wanted On Policing Priorities For Cheshire - Closes 24th Jan

Cheshire PCC David Keane, has launched a public consultation to obtain the views of Cheshire residents to find out their priorities for policing and community safety over the next 12 months.  As well as asking residents what their top priority for Cheshire Police is, he also wants to know how safe they feel in their area and if they would support a £1.25 per month increase to the policing precept element of council tax to address increasing pressures on Cheshire Constabulary. The government have released the Provisional Police Funding Settlement which sets out the policing budgets for the next financial year starting in March 2021.  The funding referred to in this statement from the government is dependent on local residents paying more in Council tax over the next year.  The consultation looks to ensure all residents have the opportunity to have their say on the proposed increase and tell the commissioner what matters most to them in their communities...
