Volunteer Recruitment Fair 2020 

We are holding a volunteer recruitment fair at our Widnes Office on Wednesday 29th January 2020, 11-2pm. The fair will be a market place style event for the most part. However, we would like to make the event as exciting and interactive as possible, so please feel free to be creative when considering how you might engage with the general public. We would request that your stand is manned for the whole time, so that the last visitor has a good experience as the first one. Also, we ask that fundraising tins etc are not put out on your stand as this is purely a recruitment fair. We recommend that you bring your own lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. Places are limited, so early registration is recommended...


New Look Offers 20% Discount To Willowbrook Hospice Supporters

Willowbrook Hospice has teamed up with Hospice UK and fashion retailer New Look this winter to offer St Helens shoppers an extra big thank you for helping the charity. Piloted earlier this year in several locations around the country, the scheme which encourages more people to donate goods to local hospice shops has now gone countrywide. The high street store will be offering a 20% discount voucher to anyone who drops in a full bag of donations at the Willowbrook Hospice shop in St Mary’s Arcade, St Helens. Under the scheme, running in partnership with national charity Hospice UK, donors will receive a voucher which they will be able to spend at New Look’s store in Church Street, which is only a short walk from the hospice shop...


VS6 Comms Meeting November 2019

The recent meeting of the VS6 partners was attended by VCFSE sector representatives from across the Liverpool City Region, including Sefton CVS, Halton & St Helens VCA, Community Action Wirral and Merseyside Youth Association. At the meeting, Christian Stannard, Relationship Manager at Social Investment Business introduced the Liverpool City Region Impact Fund (LCRIF) which provides repayable finance to charities and social enterprises in the Liverpool City Region to help them to increase their economic and social impact.  The Fund has over £600,000 in total to invest by 2021. Also at the meeting, individual members of the partnership provided updates on recent & upcoming events where they represent VS6, including a Power to Change Event on the Wirral; VS6’s first Housing Assembly, and the Global Social Economy Forum. Finally, it was also agreed that VS6 would host several events in 2020 in the run-up to the Mayoral election...

ASIST Practitioner Training

Caring Connections suicide bereavement team have recently become accredited to deliver the globally recognised Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) course. At present there are only approx. 150 individuals across the UK accredited to deliver this training and 2 are within their charity. The course runs for 2 consecutive days in which individuals will be trained in the skills to intervene when encountering a suicidal individual. The course is intense and has a number of role plays etc all developing key skills and competences to develop individuals into accredited ASIST practitioners...

To provide emotional and practical support with the focus being on employment. The aim will be to provide tailored support to a small group of individuals on a 1-2-1 or in a group setting to realise their potential and to help them to achieve their personal and professional goals. John is a qualified personal and vocational counsellor, and an experienced trainer on equality and diversity issues...

January IAM Advanced Driving Course

The St Helens & District Group of Advanced Drivers welcomes all qualified car drivers to the Introduction meeting for the January 2020 course at the Ibis Hotel, Haydock. This is on Sunday morning, 12th January commencing at 10:00am and will include a presentation outlining the ideals of the Group to enhance driving skills and further promote road safety. Free driving assessments will be available and also substantial discounts to certain age groups ie. 35years and under pay £60 instead of the £149 IAM course fee and 60 years and over pay only £99...
