VCSE Surgery: 20 20 Vision

At Halton and St Helens VCA, as well as representing groups at strategic level, we are constantly exploring the best ways to engage VCSE organisations within local policy and the health and wellbeing priorities for our local communities. Over the next 12 months we will be holding a number of ‘surgeries’ in order to give groups an interactive platform to explore a range of current priorities and formulate effective ways in which the sector can respond and build relationships with our public sector partners. DisabledGo Access Guide Launch Event - including “Have Your Say"

Halton Council and DisabledGo have been working together to provide a comprehensive access guide to 700 venues across Halton. Venues included are leisure centres, hotels, cinemas, pharmacies, libraries, parks and many more.  The access guide helps increase independence and choice for Disabled people, their friends, family and carers by providing detailed information on the access features of venues and public spaces Disabled people can make an informed judgment about the suitability of access.  Anyone is welcome to attend the launch event including, Disabled people, parents of Disabled children, older people and carers so please join in to celebrate the launch of Halton’s Access Guide....

Great News For Volunteers… The Community Awards Are Back!

OneFamily Foundation Community Awards are back, and this time they’re bigger and better than ever, with £360,000 of funding available! They have introduced an exciting new category -  Developing Skills. This is where a OneFamily customer can nominate a person to receive funding of up to £5,000 to train or learn a new skill that can be taken back into their local community - ideal for anyone who wants to volunteer, but lacks the funding and relevant training. There is one week left for projects and causes to get their Community Awards application in, with nominations closing at midday on Wednesday 26th October...

Bold Forest Park Area Action Plan - Invitation to Comment

The Bold Forest Park Area Action Plan seeks to encourage recreation, leisure and economic growth in the area around Bold and Sutton. When adopted, it will guide development decisions in the Forest Park. Following a public hearing in August 2016 undertaken by a Planning Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State, St Helens Council has published Proposed Modifications to the Area Action Plan. The proposed modifications include ‘Main Modifications’, which the Council considers necessary to improve the soundness of the Plan, and ‘Additional Modifications’, which deal with points of clarification. Views are now sought on the Proposed Modifications. The Sustainability Appraisal has also been updated and a note prepared on the Habitat Regulations Assessment and these are also available for comment...


£18,000 Grants To Fund New Websites For Charities

he Transform Foundation has recently launched a new grant programme, which will be providing £18,000 grants to a select number of non-profits, to fund the design and build of a new website for them. The grant will include a range of cutting edge tools for engaging with supporters and service users as well as the costs of the strategy, design and training required to get the website up and running. The grant programme is mostly focused on non-profits with between £0.5m - £20m annual income, although organisations outside of this range are welcome to apply...


Local Soprano To Perform In Aid Of Willowbrook Hospice

Rainhill soprano Lynn Jones will be headlining An Evening of Song in aid of Willowbrook Hospice at St Thomas Church, Eccleston on Friday 21 October at 7.30pm. Lynn, a former volunteer and recipient of day therapy at the hospice, will perform a packed programme of songs from the shows and classical favourites and will be supported by the Aughton Male Voice Choir and singer and vocalist Alex Roberts. Lynn said: “The staff at Willowbrook do a fantastic job caring for local people with life limiting illnesses and it’s lovely to be able to help raise funds for them by doing something that I love.”...

Halton & St Helens VCA Is Taking Part In A Major New Survey Of The Voluntary Sector – And We Need Your Help

We’d like you to take part in a major new survey of the voluntary sector in Merseyside and the rest of Northern England.  Its purpose is to get a good understanding of the general wellbeing and mood of the sector and to see how it is preparing for the future in a period of significant social and economic change. The survey is being undertaken by the University of Durham, and is funded by IPPR and Garfield Weston Foundation...


Cheshire Victim Services Directory

Halton & St Helens VCA, working with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire have compiled a directory and on-line resource for Victims Services in Cheshire in the voluntary and community sector. The directory is for anyone who has been affected by crime in Cheshire, the website will help to find the advice and support needed. This information is provided to anyone who may need support regardless of whether a crime has been reported or when it happened...
