New Opportunities for April
Youth Volunteering
We are looking for volunteers who are interested in working with young people, aged between 11 and 17, in our borough. A wide range of skills and talents are required to encourage and nurture our young people. So if you’re interests are music, sports, indoor or outdoor activities give us a call and find out more. References and CRB checks will be applied to all volunteers.
Befriending Volunteering
Our national healthcare charity is setting up an exciting befriending project in Haydock and needs your help.
We want to enhance the lives of the residents living with complex needs at our retirement village by making sure that they can take part in activities and hobbies, just as they did before they required support.
Can you spare a couple of hours every week to help us improve the residents' quality of life? Maybe escort Sandra to the shops or be Jack's regular table tennis opponent, or maybe you'd enjoy helping to host film nights or assisting visually impaired residents to play bingo.
All relevant training is included and we will make sure you are not our of pocket for volunteering with us.
Or you could try…….
Volunteer Events Assistant (one off event)
Looking to volunteer for a one day event? We require a number of enthusiastic volunteers to help out at the 'Wellbeing Carnival' event on Monday 14th May in St Helens town centre - this is an event to promote wellbeing, and there is an exciting mix of activities and information to take place on the day aimed at the general public. There are a variety of ways in which you can help out on the day including: interacting with the general public and spreading the message of wellbeing, providing first aid support, putting together and handing out goody bags, conducting evaluations/questionnaires, helping to set up the marquee or even dressing up in a mascot costume!
National Citizen Service Volunteer (sort out your summer volunteering now)
We are seeking volunteers to help deliver National Citizen Service programme to 72, 16 year olds in July this year. The programme consists of 3 weeks full time commitment, including residentials. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wanting to gain experience working with young people.
Communication Support Volunteer:
Do you have a sense of humour, are friendly, outgoing and have empathy? Then we would like to hear from you. Volunteers are urgently needed to support Stroke Survivors with communication difficulties. The aim is to rebuild confidence, increase independence in language skills and help to achieve best possible levels of recovery. This is achieved either through weekly group meetings where various activities and events take place, or by working with people on an individual basis either in their own homes or in the community to assist with regaining their confidence, communication and social interests. CRB required.
Forever Meadows: Grassland Habitat Restoration in the Sankey Valley:
St Helens is home to some of the most diverse and attractive wildflower grasslands in North West England. Most of them are occur on former industrial sites in the Sankey Valley. We're looking for volunteers to help us restore them and realise their potential for the people and wildlife of St Helens. Tasks include cutting back vegetation, raking, pruning and felling small trees and other “gardening” type tasks.
As the work progresses, there'll be opportunities to learn a range of new skills, both practical and theoretical, via Lancashire Wildlife Trust's volunteer training programme.
This hands-on work is likely to appeal to anyone looking for work experience in land-based environmental work, ecology and conservation, regardless of current skill levels and expertise. There will be opportunities to learn informally and formally over the course of the project.
If you're interested in wildlife, the environment or just fancy getting active outdoors in the company of a welcoming group, this could be the opportunity for you.
