Volunteering England's Response To Budget

‘Place priority on unique value of volunteering’ says Justin Davis Smith, Chief Executive of Volunteering England, in comment on Budget statement:

“With significant spending reductions in most Government departments, difficult decisions will be made.

“The contribution of volunteers will be more important than ever in helping people cope with cuts in public services as well as cuts in benefits. Investment in volunteering must be protected to help people pull through in the tough times ahead.

“Government departments can see the value of investing in volunteers, whether fulfilling a crucial role in health services, supporting the police, organising sports, protecting our environment, running opportunities for young people or building the Big Society.

“When Government departments consider their spending reviews, they would do well to place priority on the unique value of volunteering in achieving their policy goals.”
