Active St. Helens 2010 - 15: A Strategy for Physical Activity, Physical Education and Sport

Active St. Helens is revised at a time when attention is focused at both national and local level on how we can support individuals to make positive health choices. Nationally there is a concern that too many adults and children are not active enough to benefit their health and that childhood obesity levels are rising sharply. Locally, health improvement is a key priority for the Council, the Primary Care Trust and their partners; all the key indicators show that there is a significant need to improve health in the borough.

St Helens Council would like to encourage you to read the draft strategy, (a link to this can be found below) and would also welcome any comments or suggestions on the strategy and the proposed priorities you may have. In particular they would welcome your views on the challenges identified on pages 14 to 17.

The document has been produced using data from National and Local Consultation and Research and the steering group is made up of representatives from the Council, PCT, District Sports Council and Age Concern Mid Mersey who have all actively contributed to the documents preparation.
