University of the Third Age in St Helens!
There are over 600 local University of the Third Age groups in the UK … but there has been no U3A in St Helens …… until now!
A small group of St Helens volunteers got together in June to begin the process of starting up a new group. They need your help!
The University of the Third Age is a self-help organisation for people who are no longer in full time employment. No educational qualifications are required or given. People from all walks of life meet together to share skills and acquire knowledge in a friendly atmosphere. Those who teach and those who learn are all members of the group.
The U3A is a voluntary organisation for anyone in their ‘third age’… that time after the ‘second age’ of employment and parental responsibility. Men and women with a lifetime of experience, expertise and know-how in professions, occupations and hobbies form groups and share knowledge with their fellow members. They make many friends and have a great deal of fun in the process!
If you are interested in joining St Helens U3A and you would like to be there at the beginning to lend a helping hand – or just to give words of encouragement- then please e-mail adultlearning@sthelens.gov.uk or telephone Irene on 01744 677314. Your details will be passed on to the newly formed U3A start up group. They will be delighted to hear from you!
The next planning meeting is to be held in St Helens Town Hall on Monday 26th July at 2pm. All are welcome.
