Volunteer Recruitment Fair

Are you looking for a new adventure? Or would you like to donate some of your free time?  Maybe you're thinking about a carer change? We're holding a Volunteer Recruitment Fayre on the 29th January, between 11am and 2pm, at our Widnes Office (St Maries, Lugsdale Road, Widnes, WA8 6DB).. There will be more than 25 groups present, all looking to recruit volunteers from Halton, St Helens and the wider area, so anyone looking to volunteer is welcome to drop-in during those times and have a chat about volunteering and the volunteer opportunities available...


Merseyside Resident To Be Honoured With A Coveted British Citizen Award

Kim Hughes, from Merseyside is to be recognised at the Palace of Westminster with a British Citizen Award in recognition of her extraordinary endeavours. The British Citizen Award, in partnership with One Stop, is now in its fifth year and recognises exceptional individuals who positively impact their communities throughout the country. Kim has been a volunteer for Apex Charitable Trust since 1998.  She works with and supports ex-offenders helping them to turn their lives around. Kim shows kindness and compassion believing everyone deserves a second chance. She knows that education and opportunities not only help reduce reoffending, but strengthen communities by giving people a sense of purpose and worth...


Non Magistrate Members of the Cheshire & Merseyside Advisory Committees

Chrysalis Centre for Change Moving to New Premises

Chrysalis Centre for Change is holding an informal open afternoon on 31st January 1-4pm. Organisations are welcome to pop over any time during the afternoon so you can have a look round their new premises, meet the team and exchange information. They will be providing tea/coffee/water and biscuits/cakes and they have two young women singing a couple of songs, one at 2pm and the other at 3pm if you want to time your visit around them. Emily writes her own songs and has a folk style using a guitar, and Abbie has a powerhouse voice and will be belting out a power ballad or two...


Knights House Fund (Widnes)

The Knights House Fund aims to support people in the borough of Widnes who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.  The fund will fund both voluntary and community groups that are working in the Widnes area on a wide range of charitable projects and also individuals in need of additional help and support. Voluntary and community groups need to be able to evidence the requirement for their project and show how it will reduce the need, hardship or distress of their beneficiaries.  The fund aims to support projects that are alleviating poverty, responding to a basic lack of provision and relieving emotional and physical suffering. Individuals can apply for items such as white goods and furniture and need to evidence a need for their request and demonstrate that funding is not available from elsewhere ie government funding...


Chain Lane Community Centre AGM

'Run by the community for the community' is what Chain Lane Community Centre is all about, in maintaining a community asset for the community to use. New Sub-Board Members Sought by Liverpool City Region LEP

To stimulate and support regional economic growth, the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) supports a number of regional boards in the growth sectors and disciplines that are pivotal to delivering inclusive growth in the city region. These boards, made up of people from the private and public sectors, provide strategic insight, intelligence and guidance to the LEP board and the Combined Authority in the fulfilment of their strategic activities for the city region. Widening participation to less represented groups is something the Liverpool City Region LEP is committed to through the establishment of a Diversity and Inclusion Task Group with the aim of increasing diversity and inclusion on all LEP Boards. Persona Insight CIC Community Peer Support Drop-Ins

Persona Insight CIC Bespoke Peer Support have developed a community centre based Peer Support drop~in service. Every Monday’ 2-4pm Pi Community Centre Drop-in;sponsored by The Plus Dane Group; A free weekly meet-up where members talk, relax and enjoy a little rest bite from their struggles. A free drink upon arrival and a warm non judgemental welcome is guaranteed. Every Wednesday 10-12am The Boat Club Spike Island is the newest location. The first Pi Community Peer Support drop~in at Spike Island Widnes is on Wednesday 19th February 2020. The manager of The Boat Club kindly donated Persona Insight CIC the free use of the community cafe. The Boat Club will mirror Castlefields Community Centre drop-in. They will have activities that benefit everyone who lives in Halton, Cheshire as well as the wider communities and society of the United Kingdom. They create an inclusive non-judgemental community support network for those suffering the effects of in-group and out-group divides, which results in social exclusion and poor mental and physical health. They aim to break down the barriers, aid self-awareness, celebrate differences and encourage mindset growth...


St Helens and District Diabetes Meeting for February 2020

The next meeting of the St Helens & District Group of Diabetes UK will be on Wednesday 5th February 2020 at 7.30pm in St Helens United Reformed Church, King St, WA10 2JZ. The church is next to Windle Pilkington Hall. The speakers will be Jan Cardwell and Sue Michaels who will be leading us in an evening of "Diabetes – Questions and Answers". Jan is a Diabetes Nurse Consultant and Sue is a Diabetes Specialist Nurse, they are both from the Specialist Diabetes Unit in St Helens Hospital...

Volunteer This New Year With Willowbrook Hospice

As the New Year begins, many people will make an array of resolutions from joining a gym or giving up smoking to changing career.  Most of these revolve around actions which will be of benefit to our well-being but why not commit to a New Year’s resolution that benefits others and yourself at the same time? Willowbrook Hospice is urging local people to think seriously about choosing volunteering as one of their New Year pledges.
