Lord Ferrers Awards 2017

The awards, previously known as the Special Constable and Police Support Volunteer Awards, highlight the vital role volunteers play in support of policing, by giving up their free time to make communities safer, and enhancing the effectiveness of policing across England and Wales. In 2013, they were renamed in memory of Lord Ferrers, the former Home Office minister who created the awards in 1993. Food Access Survey

Halton Council is launching a survey to find out how easy it is for residents to access healthy and affordable food. The results of the survey will be used to inform future council policy. The survey is the final part of a detailed study that has looked at food provision across the borough. The survey was launched on 4th September and will run for 6 weeks until 13th October. World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is held each year on 10 September. It is an annual awareness raising event organised by International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). This year's theme is about connecting with others and letting people know that #ITSOKAYTOTALK. In the UK and ROI, more than 6,000 people die by suicide a year - an average of 18 a day. Reaching out to people who are going through a difficult time can be a game changer. People who are feeling low or suicidal often feel worthless and think that no-one cares. Small things like hearing from friends or family, feeling listened to or just being told that 'it's ok to talk' can make a huge difference...


Halton Diabetes UK - Open Evening

The Halton Diabetes UK Group is a support group for people who live in Halton and have diabetes. They are a small, friendly group of people and have regular meetings which alternate between Widnes and Runcorn where they have guest speakers from the healthcare profession who give them lots of information about the various aspects of diabetes in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. People coming to the meetings are more than welcome to bring along family, friends or carers and are always pleased to see healthcare professionals who wish to come along! Pancreatic Cancer UK Information Volunteer Opportunity

Pancreatic Cancer UK are offering an exciting part-time volunteering opportunity (1-2 days per month) to support the regional team in the North West (Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside). The Information Volunteers will help the team to reach people throughout the North West who are affected by a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, providing them with access to information and support. Healthwatch St Helens Communication and Engagement Officer Vacancy - Closing Date Friday 8th September

Halton and St Helens VCA wants to employ someone who can support and develop Healthwatch St Helens through the provision of an information and communication service to ensure that the views of patients, the public and local communities inform the development of local health and social care services. Duties will include: Assist Healthwatch members and the general public across all sectors to have a voice to ensure that Healthwatch St Helens has a significant influence on healthcare provision and social care services within St Helens. Use social media and other appropriate methods to promote the work of Healthwatch and to recruit new members and volunteers. You will need to be able to communicate effectively and confidently both orally and in writing and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft office and content management systems...

Halton & St Helens VCA, working with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire have compiled a directory and on-line resource for Victims Services in Cheshire in the voluntary and community sector. The directory is for anyone who has been affected by crime in Cheshire, the website will help to find the advice and support needed. This information is provided to anyone who may need support regardless of whether a crime has been reported or when it happened...
